Welcome to the inaugural season for Murwillumbah Football Club Inc.
Murwillumbah FC
Committee Members from both former Murwillumbah based clubs have worked tirelessly and collaboratively over many months in order to make MFC possible and are to be congratulated. We anticipate MFC to become a substantial sporting organisation with some 400 Junior and 40 Senior Members and growing stronger each year. Football across South East Queensland is entering a dynamic time with the A League expansion to include Gold Coast United and the Tweed Valley Kings to enter the very competitive Gold Coast Premier League. MFC is superbly placed to develop football in the local area on par with anywhere in the country. Excellent development programs exist for talented and dedicated juniors to progress to the highest levels of the game without having to travel to major cities. It is indeed plausible that in coming years locally produced players will be competing at an international level. The Tweed Valley Kings Junior Development Program is currently in the final stages of production and will be available to all MFC players in addition to their normal team training. STAY TUNED!
MFC Senior Training Every Tuesday & Thursday 6.30pm Men's and Women's, All Grades New and Former players Most Welcome
?Curious Facts?
Tsu Chu (China)
It has been proven, that a kicking game called Tsu Chu (may also be
spelled as Tsu'Chu or Tsu-Chu) emerged in ancient China as early as
2500 BC. Tsu means "to kick the ball with feet" and Chu may be directly
translated as "a ball made of leather and stuffed." According to
records, the game was typically played in celebration of the emperor's
birthday.
The goal of Tsu Chu was to kick a ball through an opening into a small
net. This net was fixed onto erected bamboo canes. Considering that the
opening was about 30 to 40 cm in diameter (1 foot) and remained
elevated at about 9 meters (30 feet) above ground, it is presumable
that a high level of skill was needed to play.
During the Ts'in Dynasty (255 BC - 206 BC) a form of Tsu Chu was used
for training by soldiers. At the time of the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220
AD) Tsu Chu was extensively played. A war manual from that time period
featured physical exercises called Tsu Chu. These exercises involved a
leather ball filled with feathers and hair. They were similar to the
Tsu Chu game and declared that players had to prevent each other from
scoring. With the exception of the hands, all other body parts were
applicable while trying to "score."
Kemari (Japan)
Between 300 AD - 600 AD the Japanese developed a game called Kemari
(also called Kenatt). It was played by eight or less people with a
deerskin-covered ball stuffed with sawdust (about nine to ten inches in
diameter). The players had to keep the ball from touching the floor by
juggling it with their feet and collectively passing it from one to
another. The playing field used for Kemari was called Kikutsubo. By
tradition, the Kikytsubo is rectangular-shaped with a sapling planted
in each corner (the classic version featured four different trees:
cherry, maple, willow and pine). The Japanese even had Kemari lingo.
When kicking the ball up, a player would say "ariyaaa!" (here we go) or
"ari!" (here) when passing it over to someone else.
The period between the 10th and 16th century was a golden age for
Kemari. The game spread to the lower classes and became a muse for
poets and story writers. A Japanese anecdote claims of an emperor, who
with the help of his team, kept the ball airborne for over 1000 kicks.
Contemporary poets claimed that the ball "seemed suspended, hanging in
the sky." Afterwards, the ball was retired and given a high court rank
by the emperor himself.
Around the 13th or 14th century a specific outfit was employed and
Kemari players wore vivid long-sleeved uniforms based on the hitatare.
The game of Kemari is still played today by Japanese enthusiasts who
want to preserve the old tradition.

Saints Committee
Our
committee are all volunteers who give their time freely. We all have jobs, we all have kids playing
soccer, and some of us coach a team.If
you can help out in any way please come forward.
The
fields need to be set up, the canteen needs helpers and the BBQ needs to be
manned on our home game days.
Our
main contact for any queries or concerns you may have is our President Jason
Dittmar.Jason can be contacted at
‘Sportsworld’ in Murwillumbah on 02 66722 742.
A big
‘Thank you’ to Jason & Allison for all their efforts, and their time given
to the running of our Club.
Coaches
All our
coaches are volunteers.A big ‘Thank you’
to those who have taken on this role.
Players
and parents are asked to give their coach total support and assist in all ways
possible.
Players
are asked to attend all training sessions and weekend games. If for some reason you are unable to attend
either, please call your coach and advise them.Game days can be very stressful for coaches, especially when players
they are expecting do not show up.
Parents of players &
Supporters of teams on Game Day
Parents
/ Supporters are asked to leave the coaching to the Coach during the Game on
Saturdays. Our
coaches volunteer their time – if you have any issues or problems with the coaching
this year, perhaps you could think about putting up your hand, and volunteer your
time next year.
Parents / Carers that coach and yell from the
sideline not only confuse their own kids, but in fact cause confusion to the entire
team.It also causes a considerable
amount of stress to the coach, who is doing their very best to run and manage
the whole team.By all means shout out
encouragement and praise – but please, leave the instructing of the game to the
coach who is on the bench, where all coaching and instructions to the team are
to come from.
Parents
/ Supporters who are continually calling out to players and shouting
instructions from the side line will be asked to stop by Club Officials. If they persist, they will be asked to leave
the field.Anyone is very welcome to put
their hand up to coach a team next year. This year, leave it to those that have volunteered their time. Our coaches are all volunteers, some still
gaining experience, all doing the very best that they can, and we do not want
to lose them. Please leave the coaching to the coaches, and sit back and enjoy the
game.
Fees
All outstanding fees are now overdue.
If you
have outstanding fees, please finalise the payment, or arrange your payment
plan with Shirley or Steve at training on Tuesdays.
Team Draws
All
Team Draws, ground locations, soccer information and any updates and changes to
the draw are available on the soccer websites. It is a good idea for our
competitive teams to check the FFNC site on Fridays for any draw changes.

...Here is some fantastic feedback we recently received... "hi, i was just wanting to say what a fantastic nail-biting match it was
between our junior 6's teams on saturday. Tyalgum V's Mur'bah black.
Tyalgum were undefeated until we came up against the 'mighty saints'
that have obviously learnt what team sport is about. It made all the
parents/spectators really get involved. Both teams gave 100% and it was
the best team that won in the end. It is a real pleasure to watch two
teams giving their absolute very best, well done to the coach and
especially the players for their huge efforts and a well deserved
result! Looking forward each time we play! Tyalgum Taipans grade 6
gold." ...That's what grassroots football is all about...
Well done to both teams

While talking about parents who give their time thanklessly. I ran into
Jason Dittmar at the Saints soccer fields in Murwillumbah last weekend
(remember how hot it was on Saturday) Jason was methodically going to
all parts of the ground and painting everything that needed it. He did
have some helping hands with wife Alison (Canteen Manager), Molly
(Under- 12's), Chloe (Under- 10's), Sam (Under- 8's), and Joe 17 months
(number one supporter) and Tony Tunsted (Vice President, Mens Coach)
all pitching in to give a hand. These are not the only volunteers at
Murwillumbah Saints Soccer Club as there are many others in the
background preparing for the next three big weekends for sign
